The lunar new year

For thousands of years, the country of China
Has observed the Lunar New Year.
Joyful anticipation excels in each heart
As the time of celebration draws near.

In 2019, “The Year of the Pig”,
Festivities will be in full swing,
And everyone will wear bright red clothes
For the good luck it will bring.

Fireworks are used to scare off monsters
And there’s ritualistic cleaning each day.
But no one can shower or throw out garbage
Or good luck will be washed away.

There are exquisite feasts of “lucky” foods,
But the most important part
Is the joyful reunion of extended family,
Who are very dear to the heart.

Ode To A Chinese Lunar New Year

The Chinese Lunar New Year is well-known to celebrate beginnings – such as Springtime Festival,
This Lunar NewYear – always changes dates in coming – into being – each and every – year – on season.
This special time is known for Spring activities in China and in Asia – it is classical,
The dates – this year – of February Five through February of Nineteen – chosen for a reason.

Observances take place from evening time – preceding first or days – in. Year of Lantern Fest of Days,
The animals of zodiac – a spacial belt in space, portray thy twelve positions in the skies.
The Chinese Lunar New Year – once did practice ancient myths and customs – still respect and love these ways,
This sacred time – these animals will reign for all – to celebrate by feasting, and with heart – in eyes.

The animals of China’s Zodiac are twelve in all, and each one is respected by the population,
They are as follows – pig and dog, the rooster and the monkey, sheep and horse, and snake are just a few.
The rest are dragon and the rabbit, tiger too, and ox and rat, and all are equal – to each one,
Each animal does have – its trait, and folks try living as the signs predict and tell them what to do.

The first day, Twenty Nineteen – February Five – this year – the pig arrived on date – and then – on time,
The pig is loved for heart – so pure – responsible and generous, harmonious, and likes to sleep.
The pigs considered lucky creatures, with a sign of luck and fortune – good for all – in song and rhyme,
The pig is calm and has no plan to harm another – friend nor foe – and always smart – tris not to weep.

This friendly pig – so bright and rather shy enjoys the colors grey and brown and gold – for him, they rate,
This February pig is sweet, and never bothers nor complains – but tends to make a mess – quite deep.
The pig behaves itself – knows what to do – has lucky numbers such as two and five and number eight,
The animals of Zodiac are chosen by the folks, themselves, from animals – most close- their heap.

This sacred time, these animals will reign for all, to celebrate by feasting, and with heart in eyes,
These animals of Zodiac are worshiped and revered, these days, and treasured as some precious gem.
Folks decorate their homes with hue of red, and write their couplets for each one – to you and me, with sighs,
They light their fireworks, with joy, and give away some money wrapped in envelopes of red – for them.

Each year a different type of animal with traits, galore, will choose the happenings for all to see,
This joyous day, the longest, most important fest in China’s way, from from ancient times – quotations read.
The old time books of old reflect on how the people did behave, and what they sought, with treasured glee,
Esteem, respect – all practiced – Chinese Lunar New Year – centuries observed by all – the elders said.

Each day is filled with merriment and warmth, and sharing in a loving soul, with love – God’’s key,
Today, the people gather, all, to celebrate events gone by- the time of Lunar Chinese – so-bred.
Their animals of Zodiac are all looked after, whether young or old, or sick, or even cranky be,
The youth and aged enjoy these days of family and friends – and all who plan the future time ahead.

Throughout all Asia, feasts take place, and preparations are enjoyed with great enthusiasm, bold,
Their message – to the world – is simple and responsible for all to know – world peace – to have and hold.

年味
带着岁月的记忆
含着生活的期许
穿过高山
飞过大海
飘然于
每一个有华人的角落
氤氲在
每一位华人的心中
若云
柔软浓重
若雨
丝丝入梦
若雪
纯粹晶莹
若风
春意融融
有年就有乡愁
有年就有家乡的北斗
在天涯共此时的蟾宫月明里
总是倾泻着醉人的

Happy Chinese New Year

you make a mistake, erase it from the board.
you tire of dabbing the bottom of the paint cup.
you want a fresh start,
to break free from the same-old,
be brand new, but still be you.

China? They know how to work with
the same old thing,
have been at it
for five thousand years.

so every Chinese New Year’s,
there are reasons we clean our houses
from top to bottom, sweep away
last year’s bad luck with a broom.

what better time to wear new clothes,
make up with friends you’ve had fights with,
paint the front door with a fresh coat of red,
spread out bright flowers and bowls of glowing fruit.

most of all, spill by the hundreds to line streets for
parades of dragon puppets 50-people long,
looping and curving into a long-life ahead,
to see lions dance with roosters dance with monkeys,
and watch clowns mime, somersault, walk on stilts.

gongs and cymbals ring through icy air
warming the winter February here in Chinatown
into a new spring we can’t yet see, but can imagine.
even our ancestors celebrate,
and clap their hands from a faraway place.

there are reasons this happens over and over,
because no matter how old our culture grows,
each year is new to its people,
we are all young ones in this ancient world,
with hopes, ideas, heartbeats
that spark and pop
like a huge braid of firecrackers,
there are countless reasons to believe
that everything we are
will fill up the next year
to the brim.

春节与朋友举杯

春，
酒醇。
伴酒樽，
敞开心门。
杯盏暖心身，
树木又添年轮。
春风将大地亲吻，
广袤原野芳草芬芬。
春雨绵绵将田野滋润，
朋友问候如同甘霖香淳。
路漫漫地久天长友谊长存，
放眼茫茫大地唯有情义独尊。
春天万物相依相生子子孙孙，
君子情同而亲合事业功臣。
朋友齐心何惧波浪滚滚，
浩瀚大海友情是船魂。
竹林对酒尝笋赏笋，
春风吹花絮满村。
举杯享受人伦，
祝友人风顺。
话语谆谆，
佳酿纯。
